§51313 Advisory Board

Summary

Create an Advisory Board for the United States Merchant Marine Academy that must visit the Academy at least once each academic year to review teaching and school management and to advise the Maritime Administrator and the Superintendent. The Board has no more than 7 members, chosen by the Secretary of Transportation, who must be notable in education or fields tied to the Academy. Members serve terms of up to 3 years, can be reappointed, and the Secretary picks the chair. When traveling away from home or their regular workplace, members may receive travel expenses, including per diem, under section 5703 of title 5. Chapter 10 of title 5 does not apply to the Board.
