Title 48 › Chapter CHAPTER 17— - NORTHERN MARIANA ISLANDS › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER III— - MISCELLANEOUS › § 1845
The Secretary of the Army, through the Chief of Engineers and working with the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, must study and make plans for developing, using, and protecting the Commonwealth’s water and nearby land resources. Funding may be provided for this work starting October 1, 1983, in whatever amounts are needed. The studies must look at needs like flood protection and smart floodplain use. They must also consider navigation, hydroelectric power, regional water supply and wastewater systems, recreation, water quality, and fish and wildlife, and other measures for environmental, economic, and human-resource improvement. Plans must fit with comprehensive plans from local planning agencies and other federal agencies.
