Title 48 › Chapter CHAPTER 19— - PACIFIC POLICY REPORTS › § 2002
The Secretary of the Interior, after talking with the Secretary of State, must send a report to the President and Congress no later than one year after January 14, 1986, and again every five years. The report must give clear policies and any recommendations needed to carry out those policies for U.S. and U.S.-associated noncontiguous Pacific areas. The report must cover four main things: how these areas affect U.S. foreign policy; how federal laws and programs apply there and what changes might be needed because of their special situation; how well the federal government coordinates with local governments, provides liaison, and gives Congress the information it needs; and what actions could help their economic and social development while respecting their own choices.
