§5120 International uniformity of standards and requirements

Title 49 › Subtitle SUBTITLE III— - GENERAL AND INTERMODAL PROGRAMS › Chapter CHAPTER 51— - TRANSPORTATION OF HAZARDOUS MATERIAL › § 5120

Summary

The Secretary of Transportation must join international groups that set mandatory rules for moving hazardous materials in international trade, following guidance from the Secretary of State. The Secretary may work with other authorities so U.S. rules under sections 5103(b), 5104, 5110, and 5112 line up with those standards when practical, but does not have to adopt rules judged unnecessary or unsafe and may set stricter rules to protect the public.
