As an extra benefit, the Director of the U.S. Secret Service, or someone the Director chooses, may give a clothing allowance to a member who must wear normal business or work clothes that the employee buys. The allowance is not part of the member’s basic pay and must not be used to figure retirement, overtime, paid leave, lump-sum payments under sections 5551 and 5552, workers’ compensation, or any other benefit. The Director can stop the allowance at any time with written notice. The allowance cannot be more than $500 per year.
