The Attorney General can file a civil lawsuit in federal court against anyone who breaks the rules in sections 13143 or 13144. The court can make that person pay up to $10,000 or the amount they were paid for the forbidden conduct, whichever is larger. An organization named in section 13142 can give written advisory opinions to people covered by this law. Anyone who gets such an opinion, and anyone else in the same situation who honestly follows it after it is issued, will not face penalties under the rule above for those actions.
