Allows people still on active duty who expect an honorable discharge or separation within 120 days to be treated like veterans or disabled veterans when being hired for most federal jobs. To qualify, the person must meet the other parts of the legal veteran or disabled-veteran definitions and must give a written statement to the hiring official saying they expect an honorable discharge or separation no later than 120 days after the statement. This same rule also counts for getting veteran hiring preference. Veteran — refers to the legal definition in section 2108(1). Disabled veteran — refers to the legal definition in section 2108(2). Preference eligible — refers to the legal status in section 2108(3).
