If the President does not formally nominate someone for a vacant inspector general job within 210 days that starts on the later of the vacancy date or the date a prior nomination was rejected, withdrawn, or returned, the President must tell the relevant congressional committees. Within 30 days after that 210-day period ends, and at least by June 1 each year after, the President must explain why no nomination was made and give a target date for making one.
