Title 5 › Part PART III— - EMPLOYEES › Subpart Subpart C— - Employee Performance › Chapter CHAPTER 45— - INCENTIVE AWARDS › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER I— - AWARDS FOR SUPERIOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS › § 4507a
Agencies must each year send the Office of Personnel Management recommendations for senior career employees to be given the rank of Meritorious Senior Professional or Distinguished Senior Professional. The Meritorious rank is for sustained accomplishment. The Distinguished rank is for sustained extraordinary accomplishment. A "senior career employee" is a person appointed to a job above GS–15 and paid under section 5376 who is not on a time-limited appointment and not in a competitive-service job that is excepted because it is confidential or policy-making. OPM will use the same rules it uses for Senior Executive Service rank awards under section 4507 when reviewing and giving these ranks.
