Summary

The Secretary of Defense must create and run a program to help U.S. students who study abroad through the Department of Defense’s National Security Education Programs. The program must teach students how to spot and protect themselves from attempts by foreign intelligence agents to recruit them. Within 180 days after December 12, 2017, the Secretary must give a briefing about this program to the Senate and House Armed Services Committees.

(a)The Secretary of Defense shall develop and implement a program to prepare United States students studying abroad through Department of Defense National Security Education Programs to recognize and protect themselves against recruitment efforts by intelligence agents.
(b)Not later than 180 days after December 12, 2017, the Secretary of Defense shall provide to the Committees on Armed Services of the Senate and the House of Representatives a briefing on the program required under subsection (a).
