Summary

To be eligible for an annuity under these rules after leaving civilian service (except when the person leaves because of death or disability), an employee must have at least one year of creditable service in pay status within the two years before leaving. If they don't meet that, pay deductions for the unused period must be returned at separation, and it does not affect any annuity they or their survivors already earned from an earlier separation.
