Defines what the names of the three military departments mean for this chapter. Department of the Navy means the Navy’s main offices in Washington, the Marine Corps headquarters, all Navy and Marine Corps operating forces (including naval aviation and reserves), its field activities and bases, and the Coast Guard when it is serving as part of the Navy under law. Department of the Air Force means the Air Force’s main offices in Washington and all its field headquarters, units, reserves, bases, activities, and functions that it runs.
