The Director of National Intelligence must appoint an Intelligence Community Chief Data Officer inside the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. The person must have suitable professional experience, and the Director may prefer someone with experience outside the U.S. government. The Chief Data Officer is the DNI’s lead for data matters across the intelligence community, works with the Defense Department’s Chief Data Officer to align policies and standards, helps with the data parts of the ODNI budget, and carries out other data duties the DNI or law assigns.
