Each head of six intelligence agencies must pick a senior official to be that agency’s chief technology officer. The six are CIA, DIA, FBI, NGA, NSA, and NRO. The CTO must help find and adopt technology for mission needs and cannot also serve as chief information officer, chief data officer, or principal science officer.
