The Secretary in charge must give every service member information about the rights and protections they and their dependents have under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act. This information must be given at initial orientation. For reservists it must also be given when they are called to active duty for more than one year. The Secretary can give it at other times and may also give it to adult dependents. "Dependent" and "Secretary in charge" are terms defined in the Act.
