Summary

The Administrator must do reviews every three years in each Science division to weigh the costs and benefits of keeping missions that are past their planned lifetime collecting data. The reviews must look at how extensions could affect the start of future missions. When deciding to extend an active mission, the Administrator must talk with any affected Federal agency and consider the benefits of instruments that keep working. The Administrator must send a report about any such review from the past year to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology at the same time the Administration sends its annual budget to Congress.
