Title 52 › Subtitle Subtitle I— - Voting Rights › Chapter CHAPTER 105— - SUPPLEMENTAL PROVISIONS › § 10507

Last updated Apr 6, 2026|Official source

Summary

The Director of the Census must immediately run a survey to collect voter registration and voting data. It must cover every State or local area where the bans in section 10303(a) apply for each statewide general election for Members of the U.S. House after January 1, 1974, and any election chosen by the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. The survey only counts citizens of voting age by race or color and national origin, and checks whether they are registered and whether they voted. No one can be forced to give their race, color, national origin, party, or how they voted, and people must be told they may refuse. The Census Director must report results to Congress as soon as possible. Section 9 and chapter 7 of title 13 apply to these surveys.
