The Standards Board (through its Executive Board) and the Board of Advisors can hold hearings, meet, take testimony, and gather evidence when the Commission provides money. They may not issue subpoenas to force witnesses or documents. Each board must meet at least once every year to vote on the voluntary voting system guidelines sent under section 20962. The Standards Board must meet at least once every 2 years to choose the Executive Board and may meet more often as needed. Each board can get information from any federal department or agency. If the Executive Board (for the Standards Board) or the Chair (for the Board of Advisors) asks, the agency head must give the information. The boards may use the U.S. mail like other federal agencies. If asked, the Administrator of the General Services Administration must provide needed administrative support on a reimbursable basis. Board members do not get pay for their service, but they are paid travel expenses and per diem while away from home or work at the rates authorized for employees under subchapter I of chapter 57 of title 5.
