Summary

Defines three key words used here. "Damages" means money to replace, fix, or buy the same kind of System unit resource; money for a major loss of use while waiting for replacement or repair; money for the resource if it can’t be replaced; and the cost of a damage assessment under section 100723(b) of this title. "Response costs" are the Secretary’s costs to prevent or reduce harm, to address an immediate threat, or to monitor ongoing effects. "System unit resource" is any living or nonliving thing inside a System unit’s boundaries, but not something owned by a non‑Federal entity.
