Title 54 › Subtitle Subtitle I— - National Park System › Chapter CHAPTER 1031— - APPROPRIATIONS AND ACCOUNTING › § 103101
The Service can count cash payments and payroll deductions for meals and housing it provides to federal employees in the field and to partner agencies as repayment to the unit’s current budget. The Service’s budget may also pay for work needed to prepare and record title paperwork for land donated to the United States for Service management. With the Secretary’s approval, up to $500,000 per incident may be used to keep order in emergency law-enforcement situations and to do emergency search and rescue in the System. If that money is spent, the Secretary must ask Congress quickly for extra funds to replace it. Each month, money is provided to reimburse the District of Columbia for certain Park Police retirement payments made under the Policemen and Firemen’s Retirement and Disability Act of 1957, but Service appropriations cannot be used to make those reimbursements. Service equipment funds may buy waterproof footwear, and that footwear is treated as System equipment.
