Preservation or historic preservation covers work that finds, studies, records, cares for, acquires, protects, manages, repairs, restores, stabilizes, maintains, researches, explains, and conserves historic places and items. It also covers education and training about those tasks, or any combination of them.

In this division, the term “preservation” or “historic preservation” includes—
(1)identification, evaluation, recordation, documentation, curation, acquisition, protection, management, rehabilitation, restoration, stabilization, maintenance, research, interpretation, and conservation;
(2)education and training regarding the foregoing activities; or
(3)any combination of the foregoing activities.
