The State Historic Preservation Officer must run the State Historic Preservation Program. They must work with federal and state agencies, local governments, private groups, and people to protect historic places. They must do ten main jobs: survey and keep records of historic places; nominate eligible places to the National Register and handle listings; make and carry out a statewide preservation plan; manage federal preservation funds in the State; advise and help government bodies with preservation duties; make sure historic places are considered in planning and development; provide public information, training, and technical help; help local governments create programs and get certified under chapter 3025; consult with federal agencies about projects that could affect historic places and plans to protect or reduce harm; and advise on rehabilitation projects that might get federal aid.
