The Secretary, after working with the Board, must give grants for preservation technology and training to groups that can do the work. The grants are meant to support research, information sharing, and skills training across the historic preservation fields. Grants must be spread across different preservation areas and places. No one recipient can get more than 10 percent of the grants in a year. Total administrative costs may not be more than 25 percent of all grant costs. Who can apply: federal and non-federal labs, accredited museums, universities, nonprofit groups, National Park Service units and study units, State Historic Preservation Offices, tribal preservation offices, and Native Hawaiian organizations. Grants must be awarded using accepted professional standards, including peer review.
