Title 54 › Subtitle Subtitle III— - National Preservation Programs › Chapter CHAPTER 3071— - MISCELLANEOUS › § 307108
The Secretary may take donated money to pay for projects that buy, restore, protect, or recover information from places on the National Register, if the project is owned by a State, local government, or a nonprofit. When spending the donations, the Secretary must consider national importance, local historical value, how soon it might be lost, and the donor’s wishes. These donations do not have to meet the matching rules in sections 302901 and 302902(b), but recipients may use them to match grants from the Historic Preservation Fund. The Secretary may move unused donated funds to the Service with the donor’s consent, and those funds must be used under this division.
