Defines key words used in the chapter. “National Trust” is the National Trust for Historic Preservation in the United States, created by section 312102 of this title. “Private nonprofit organization” is any person that is tax-exempt under section 501(a) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 and described in section 501(c)(3) of that Code (26 U.S.C. 501(a) and 26 U.S.C. 501(c)(3)). “Program” means the National Maritime Heritage Grants Program created by section 308703(a) of this title. “State Historic Preservation Officer” is the official a State’s chief executive appoints under section 302301(1) of this title for a State whose preservation program the Secretary has approved under that section.
