Title 54 › Subtitle Subtitle III— - National Preservation Programs › Chapter CHAPTER 3087— - NATIONAL MARITIME HERITAGE › § 308705
America’s National Maritime Museum is made up of museums that meet two rules: they must hold maritime artifacts that show the Nation’s maritime heritage, and they must run public programs to teach people about that heritage. The Mariners’ Museum (100 Museum Drive, Newport News, Virginia) and the South Street Seaport Museum (207 Front Street, New York, New York) are named as part of America’s National Maritime Museum. Other museums that meet the rules can be added by law, and U.S. government records that refer to a named museum will treat it as part of America’s National Maritime Museum.
