The Secretary must keep the agency that pays for or permits a project always informed about the progress of any survey or recovery work so the agency’s work is not delayed. Surveys and recovery programs must end when the Secretary and the agency head agree, unless they both agree to keep them going. The Secretary must talk with interested government agencies, schools and science groups, private institutions, and experts to decide who owns any finds and where they should be kept. The Secretary must also coordinate all federal survey and recovery work under this chapter.
