Title 7 › Chapter CHAPTER 38— - DISTRIBUTION AND MARKETING OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER IV— - COUNTRY OF ORIGIN LABELING › § 1638
Defines what items and words mean for this part of the law. A "covered commodity" is 11 specific foods, including muscle cuts and ground lamb and venison; farm-raised and wild fish; perishable agricultural commodities; peanuts; goat meat; whole or part chicken; ginseng; pecans; and macadamia nuts. If one of those items is only an ingredient in a processed food, it is not a covered commodity. "Farm-raised fish" includes farmed shellfish and their fillets, steaks, nuggets, or other flesh. "Wild fish" means fish or shellfish born naturally or in hatcheries and taken from the wild, and it also covers their fillets, steaks, nuggets, or other flesh, but it does not include net‑pen or other farmed fish. A "food service establishment" is a place that sells prepared food to the public. "Lamb" means sheep meat that is not mutton. The terms "perishable agricultural commodity" and "retailer" use the meanings in section 499a(b) of this title. "Secretary" means the Secretary of Agriculture acting through the Agricultural Marketing Service.
