Title 7 › Chapter CHAPTER 64— - AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH, EXTENSION, AND TEACHING › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER V— - ANIMAL HEALTH AND DISEASE RESEARCH › § 3202
The Secretary must award competitive research and education grants to learn about antibiotic-resistant bacteria and to promote careful antibiotic use in people and animals. Grants will fund work on how resistant bacteria develop and spread, including into groundwater and surface water, and how different drug-use plans affect resistance. Grants will also support better animal care practices, safe alternatives to antibiotics, improved veterinary tests to guide decisions, and studies of farm conditions that influence antibiotic use. Paragraphs (4), (7), (8), and (11)(B) of subsection (b) of section 3157 apply to these grants. The law allows whatever money is needed to run this program for each fiscal year from 2008 through 2012.
