§6208 Investigations and power to subpoena

Title 7 › Chapter CHAPTER 91— - LIME PROMOTION, RESEARCH, AND CONSUMER INFORMATION › § 6208

Last updated Apr 6, 2026|Official source

Summary

Gives the Secretary the power to investigate people or companies covered by the law. The Secretary can look into whether the rules are being followed and can get information needed to do the job. For investigations and related administrative hearings, the Secretary or the hearing officer can make people swear to tell the truth, and can issue subpoenas to force production of records or to bring witnesses from anywhere in the United States. If someone refuses a subpoena, the Secretary can ask a federal court where the person lives or does business to make them comply. If the court orders compliance and the person still disobeys, the court can punish them for contempt. Hearings must be held in the federal district where the person lives or has a main place of business.
