§6932a Prohibition on closure or relocation of county offices for the Farm Service Agency

Title 7 › Chapter CHAPTER 98— - DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE REORGANIZATION › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER II— - FARM PRODUCTION AND CONSERVATION › § 6932a

Last updated Apr 6, 2026|Official source

Summary

For two years after the law was passed, the Secretary of Agriculture may not close or move any Farm Service Agency county or field office. Two exceptions: an office that is 20 miles or less from another FSA office, and moving an office within the same county as part of normal lease changes. After those two years, before closing an office more than 20 miles from another office, the Secretary should, as much as possible, first close offices that are less than 20 miles from another office and that have two or fewer permanent full‑time employees. The Secretary must hold a public meeting in the county within 30 days after proposing a closure, and must notify the Committee on Agriculture and the Committee on Appropriations of the House of Representatives, the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry and the Committee on Appropriations of the Senate, each Senator from the State, and the Member of the House who represents the district, after the meeting but at least 90 days before approving the closure.
