Title 7 › Chapter CHAPTER 102— - EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE › § 7511a
The Secretary must give grants to emergency feeding organizations to pay for certain emergency food work. Eligible entity means an emergency feeding organization. At least 50 percent of each fiscal year’s funds must go to groups that mainly serve rural areas to expand food bank capacity and to improve how they get, store, track, and deliver time‑sensitive or perishable food. Grants can pay for tracking systems; storage, transport, and operating costs; help for local producers (small farms, ranches, fisheries, and manufacturers) to donate food; supplying recovered food; finding donors, providers, and people in rural need; and building or fixing facilities or equipment. Congress authorized $15,000,000 for each fiscal year 2008 through 2023.
