The Attorney General must keep on file the immigrant visa each arriving immigrant must hand to an immigration officer at the port of entry as the official record of that person’s admission (see section 1201(e)). The Attorney General must also keep whatever admission records are needed to enforce the immigration laws for immigrants admitted under section 1181(b) and for nonimmigrants.
