The Attorney General must set extra pay for immigration officers and employees who must stay on duty from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., or who work on Sundays and holidays, to process people arriving from other countries. They get an extra half day's pay for each two hours of overtime, or for any shorter overtime of at least one hour, capped at 2½ days for the full 5:00 p.m.–8:00 a.m. period; Sunday and holiday duty earns two extra days' pay. The Attorney General can adjust the hours to match local port customs but cannot change the length of the workday or these overtime pay rules.
