Title 8 › Chapter CHAPTER 12— - IMMIGRATION AND NATIONALITY › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER III— - NATIONALITY AND NATURALIZATION › Part Part II— - Nationality Through Naturalization › § 1428
If you are a minister, priest, missionary, brother, nun, or sister working for a real U.S. religious organization and you are a lawful permanent resident, a temporary absence from the United States to do religious work will not stop you from being treated as living here for naturalization. You must have lived in the U.S. without a break for at least one year before applying, meet the other naturalization rules, and prove to the Attorney General that your trip was only for those religious duties.
