Summary

The Department of State must charge a machine-readable visa fee equal to whichever is higher: $65 or the actual cost of the machine-readable visa service, as determined by the Secretary of State after studying that cost. The Department may also charge an extra $10 when it issues a machine-readable visa in a non‑machine‑readable passport. Money from these fees must be deposited into the Consular and Border Security Programs account to cover the cost of consular services. Those funds remain available until spent and may be used for the same purposes as the appropriation they are credited to.
