If you own or operate an Airbus H160-B helicopter, listen up! The FAA found a problem with some parts that could be unsafe, so they’re requiring checks and fixes starting January 17, 2025. AD applies to H160-B helicopter owners

If you own or operate an Airbus Helicopters Model H160-B, this AD applies to your helicopter. You must follow EASA Emergency AD 2024-0206-E as incorporated by reference, which requires measuring axial play of rotating scissors spherical bearings (part number U623A40T1007), taking corrective action including replacing bearings if needed, and reporting inspection results to Airbus Helicopters.

Estimated inspection and repair costs

The FAA estimates measuring the two bearings takes 2 work-hours at $85/hour ($170) per helicopter and $1,870 for the U.S. fleet of 11 helicopters. Reporting takes 1 work-hour ($85) per helicopter and up to $935 for the U.S. fleet per reporting instance. Replacing a rotating scissors spherical bearing is estimated at 2 work-hours ($170) plus $1,270 in parts, for $1,440 per bearing.

Very short compliance window

You must accomplish the initial inspection within 15 hours time-in-service or 30 days, whichever occurs first, after this AD is effective. If an inspection is done on or after the AD effective date, you must submit the inspection report within 7 days; if done before the effective date, you must submit the report within 7 days after the effective date.

Special flight permits prohibited

Special flight permits are prohibited for helicopters subject to this AD. You cannot use a special flight permit to fly the helicopter for compliance or ferry purposes under this AD.
