Must Apply Through SAP Portal

If you want access to restricted-use federal statistical data (including APHIS-NAHMS data), you must apply using the Standard Application Process (SAP) Portal, create an account, and provide personal, contact, institutional information, and a project summary through the Portal. The SAP Portal connects applicants to a metadata catalog at www.researchdatagov.org and is the required first step before agencies approve access.

Post-Approval Security Paperwork and Training

After your SAP application is approved for APHIS-NAHMS confidential data, APHIS-NAHMS will contact you to collect additional data security information, require security agreements and protocols, and provide required training before granting access. The agency reports this collection as one-time reporting for 10 respondents totaling 26 burden hours (OMB Control No. 0579-NEW).

SAP Portal Streamlines Multi-Agency Applications

The SAP Portal provides a single, web-based application to apply across federal statistical agencies and units, which is intended to reduce redundancies in the application process and streamline multi-agency requests for confidential data. The Portal itself does not store confidential data; data remain in secure agency facilities.
