Possible Import Approval for Wasabi Rhizomes

APHIS may authorize the importation of fresh rhizomes of wasabi (Eutrema japonicum) from Indonesia into the United States if, after review, the Administrator’s determination of risk remains unchanged. Any authorized imports would be allowed only subject to the phytosanitary requirements specified in the Risk Management Document (RMD) prepared under 7 CFR 319.56-4.

Public Comment Opportunity on Pest Analysis

APHIS has released a pest risk assessment and Risk Management Document for the importation of fresh wasabi rhizomes from Indonesia and is accepting public comments on those documents through March 17, 2025. The documents (including a description of economic considerations) are available at Regulations.gov (Docket APHIS-2024-0068) or in the USDA reading room.
