Public workshop — Feb 20–21, 2025
The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council will hold a public Best Fishing Practices Outreach Evaluation Workshop on February 20, 2025 (9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. EDT) and February 21, 2025 (9:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. EDT) at the Hampton Inn & Suites Charleston Airport in North Charleston, SC, with a webinar option. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required and webinar registration and materials will be available two weeks before the meetings.
Evaluation of Best Fishing Practices
The workshop will evaluate the Council's Best Fishing Practices (BFP) outreach, which the Council expanded in December 2022, to see how well outreach increases use of BFP in the South Atlantic snapper grouper fishery. The evaluation will specifically explore perceptions, norms, and use of barotrauma mitigation tools like descending devices and how outreach can support science and management.
