Between September 2018 and June 2019, the EPA removed approximately 13 million pounds of 'spent blast media' from a warehouse at 7627 Zero Road in Berger, Franklin County, Missouri. The removed material contained toxic levels of heavy metals including cadmium, chromium, and lead.

Named private companies to pay $407,164

Under the proposed agreement, AAR Landing Gear, LLC; The Boeing Company; Lockheed Martin Corporation; and Space Gateway Support, LLC (the Settling Parties) will pay $407,164 to the EPA to recover response costs at the U.S. Technology Superfund Site.

Federal agencies to pay $2,030,586

The proposed Agreement requires the Department of Defense (acting through the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, and U.S. Navy), the U.S. Coast Guard, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to pay $2,030,586 to the EPA to recover response costs at the Site.

30-day public comment window (deadline April 7, 2025)

The EPA is accepting written public comments on the proposed settlement for 30 days following publication; comments must be received on or before April 7, 2025. The EPA will consider comments and may modify or withdraw its consent; the agency’s response will be available at the EPA Region 7 office in Lenexa, Kansas.
