EPA Gives Firms Extra Time for 2024 Emissions Reports

Published Date: 3/20/2025

Rule

Summary

The EPA is giving companies more time to report their 2024 greenhouse gas data by extending the deadline from March 31 to May 30, 2025. This change only affects the 2024 reports and doesn’t change what needs to be reported or future deadlines. This extra time helps businesses avoid rushing and ensures accurate data without any new costs or penalties.

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

One-time 60-day reporting extension

If you own or operate a facility that emits, supplies, or sequesters greenhouse gases, the deadline to file your annual 2024 GHG report was changed from March 31, 2025 to May 30, 2025. This one-time, 60-day extension is effective March 20, 2025 and only applies to reporting year 2024.

No change to what you must report

The rule does not change what regulated entities must report nor does it change reporting deadlines for years after 2024. Your substantive reporting obligations under 40 CFR part 98 remain the same.

Electronic submission via e-GGRT unchanged

Facilities and suppliers must continue to submit annual GHG reports electronically using the electronic Greenhouse Gas Reporting Tool (e-GGRT) in the format specified by EPA. The extension was made because the e-GGRT system had not launched as of March 2025 and regulated entities historically had about a six-week window to use the system.
