EPA proposes approval of Idaho haze plan

The EPA is proposing to approve Idaho’s regional haze State Implementation Plan (SIP) revision submitted on August 5, 2022 and supplemented on May 8, 2024. The plan is intended to prevent and remedy manmade visibility impairment in national parks and wilderness (Class I) areas and sets rules to improve air quality; the public comment period is open until April 23, 2025.

Approved SIP creates enforceable limits for Idaho sources

The Idaho SIP revision must include enforceable emissions limitations, compliance schedules, and other measures necessary to make reasonable progress, and upon EPA approval a SIP is enforceable by the EPA and the public. This means the legally covered sources in Idaho identified in the SIP will be subject to those enforceable obligations if the EPA finalizes approval.
