Gila Chub Booted from Endangered List: It's Not Even Real!

Published Date: 6/17/2025

Proposed Rule

Summary

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service plans to remove the Gila chub from the endangered species list because new science shows it’s not actually a separate species. This means the special protections and rules for the Gila chub will end, saving money and focusing efforts elsewhere. If finalized, this change will happen soon and affect how we protect wildlife in the Southwest.
