Temporary 500‑yard security zone
From January 20 through January 28, 2026, the Coast Guard established a temporary security zone covering all navigable waters within a 500‑yard radius of the M/V SM KESTREL while the vessel is loaded with dangerous cargo in the Corpus Christi and La Quinta Ship Channels. No vessel or person may enter the zone while the ship is loaded and underway unless specifically authorized by the Captain of the Port; enforcement times and dates will be announced by Broadcast Notices to Mariners or Marine Safety Information Bulletins. To seek permission to enter, contact the Captain of the Port or designated representative on VHF‑FM channel 16 or by telephone at 1‑800‑874‑2143.
