Raise EV Charger U.S. Content Requirement
FHWA is proposing to raise the domestic-content rule for electric vehicle (EV) chargers used in Federal-aid highway projects from 55 percent of component cost to as high as 100 percent, and require final assembly in the United States. If FHWA finalizes the change, it would apply immediately to projects obligated after publication of the final notice.
Iron/Steel Charger Housings Excluded
The notice says that if an EV charger's housing is predominantly iron or steel, that housing is not covered by the EV Charger waiver and must meet FHWA's existing Buy America requirements for iron and steel. That requirement continues to apply under current rules.
