Large Natural Gas Storage Increase
Egan Hub proposes to construct two new salt-dome storage caverns at its Acadia Parish, Louisiana facility, each with 8.0 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of working gas capacity and 4.3 Bcf of base gas capacity, plus related pipelines, compression, a freshwater supply well, leaching/dewatering facilities, and a new saltwater disposal well 1.5 miles southwest of the facility.
FERC EA and 30-Day Comment Window
FERC will issue an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Egan Cavern Expansion Project on May 22, 2026, and the EA will be open for a 30-day public comment period. Other federal agencies and state agencies acting under federal authority must complete decisions on required federal authorizations within 90 days of the EA (deadline August 20, 2026).
Comments From EPA, Tribe, Landowner To Be Addressed
In response to the Commission's January 22, 2026 Notice of Scoping, the Commission received comments from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas, and one landowner. The primary issues raised were project permitting, contents of the environmental document, and the lateral extent of the proposed caverns, and the notice states that all substantive comments will be addressed in the EA.
