Pacific Cod Reallocated to Smaller Boats in Bering Sea for 2026

Published Date: 4/2/2026

Rule

Summary

Starting April 2, 2026, some Pacific cod that jig-gear boats won’t catch in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands will be given to smaller boats (under 60 feet) using hook-and-line or pot gear. This switch helps make sure the 2026 fishing season’s Pacific cod quota gets fully used, benefiting those smaller vessels ready to catch more. The change lasts through the end of 2026 and keeps the fishing fair and productive.
