EPA proposes Indiana visibility approval

On April 10, 2026, the EPA proposed to approve Indiana's November 2, 2018 State Implementation Plan submission for the 2015 ozone standard to satisfy the CAA "Prong 4" visibility requirement. The EPA says Indiana's fully approved regional haze SIP (approved January 26, 2026) means Indiana's SIP prohibits emissions that would interfere with visibility protection measures in other States.

No new federal costs for Indiana businesses

The EPA states this approval merely approves State law as meeting Federal requirements and "does not impose additional requirements beyond those imposed by State law." The action is also certified as not having a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities under the Regulatory Flexibility Act.

Approval excludes Indian reservation land

The EPA states the SIP approval is not approved to apply on any Indian reservation land or other area where a Tribe has demonstrated jurisdiction. The EPA also states the rule will not impose substantial direct costs on Tribal governments.
