Repatriation Allowed Starting May 18, 2026

If you are a member of the Puyallup Tribe or a lineal descendant, the two Native American human remains described in this notice may be returned to the tribe on or after May 18, 2026. Eastern Washington University has determined the remains are affiliated with the Puyallup Tribe and identified at least two individuals.

Who May Request Repatriation and How

If you are an Indian Tribe, a Native Hawaiian organization listed in the notice, or a lineal descendant, you may send a written request for repatriation to Eastern Washington University. If someone not listed claims affiliation, they may request repatriation by showing a preponderance of the evidence, and Eastern Washington University will decide between any competing requests before repatriation.
